An introduction to basic weaves and patterns. Samples and explorations were made on table loom. In first five warps I tried weaving and exploring some basic weaves like plain weave and its derivatives, twill, color and weave, mock leno, honeycomb and bedford cord.
Some samples from the first warp, plain weave derivatives and twill.
Honeycomb and mock leno samples.
Color & weave and bedford cord samples.
Taking inspiration from the artist Faig Ahmed who is a rug making artist from Azerbaijan (Baku), I wove a combination of different types of honeycomb (6&4 shafts). Faig Ahmed does a lot of installations using traditional rug making techniques in contemporary ways and introduce a new depth and dimension in his work.
Some of Faig Ahmed's work.
I chose honeycomb weave to bring an element of depth and heaviness  in the explorations. Using merino wool in warp and yarns of different thicknesses in weft also helped in getting different depth and densities.
